The title and concept of and they still seek the traces of blood are derived from a monumental installation (2013) by the Pakistani artist Imran Qureshi. Qureshi’s art often explores the expressive power of blood or elements reminiscent of it, as if his paintings have witnessed a massacre. In his installation “And they still seek the traces of blood,” over twenty thousand prints of past works create a reddish heap, evoking images of raw flesh and waste. In my composition, performers are instructed to repeatedly whisper the title phrase, giving voice to the bodies seemingly hidden beneath Qureshi’s allegorical pieces of flesh.
My creative process is deeply influenced by the world around me at the moment of composition. Each piece reflects not only my personal experiences but also the broader cultural and political landscape. This work was particularly influenced by the 2015 terrorist attack in Paris.
and they still seek the traces of blood is the first composition I wrote inspired by the work of Imran Qureshi. It was followed by two other pieces, “love me [not]” and “where the shadows are so deep.”

O título e o conceito de and they still seek the traces of blood derivam de uma instalação monumental (2013) do artista paquistanês Imran Qureshi. A arte de Qureshi explora frequentemente o poder expressivo do sangue ou de elementos que o recordam, como se as suas pinturas tivessem testemunhado um massacre.
