nyMphéas, string quartet (2014)

nyMphéas, for string quartet, was written in 2014. This string quartet emerges as a reinterpretation of the same soundscapes explored in water liliEs, through a more intimate prism. The sound and timbre world is a reimagining of what was created and can be seen as an emotional response to the first, reflecting a personal or artistic journey that has evolved over time, incorporating feelings of reflection, growth and transformation.
Perhaps this quartet is a natural evolution of water liliEs, where I tried to take another perspective on the same paintings, a reimagining, starting from the sketches I had written for the previous piece. I was essentially influenced by the textures and atmospheres I created in the second part of water liliEs, exploring and expanding the musical gestures previously created. The end of this quartet was influenced by the melody of the fado ‘Foi Deus’, namely António Zambujo’s interpretation.
nyMphéas was premiered by Ensemble XXI, conducted by Karel Deseure, on 7 May 2014 at the Kleine Zaal (Antwerp).

nyMphéas, para quarteto de cordas, foi escrita em 2014. Este quarteto de cordas surge como uma releitura das mesmas paisagens sonoras exploradas em water liliEs, através de um prisma mais íntimo. O mundo sonoro e tímbrico é uma reimaginação do que foi criado e pode ser visto como uma resposta emocional à primeira, refletindo uma jornada pessoal ou artística que evoluiu ao longo do tempo, incorporando sentimentos de reflexão, crescimento e transformação.
Talvez este quarteto seja uma evolução natural de water liliEs, onde procurei ter outra perspectiva dos mesmos quadros, uma reimaginação, partindo dos esboços que tinha escrito para a peça anterior. Fui, essencialmente, influenciado pelas texturas e atmosferas que criei na segunda parte de water liliEs, explorando e expandindo os gestos musicais anteriormente criados. O fim deste quarteto foi influenciado pela melodia do fado “Foi Deus”, nomeadamente pela interpretação de António Zambujo.
nyMphéas foi estreada pelo Ensemble XXI, dirigido por Karel Deseure, a 7 de Maio de 2014, na Kleine Zaal (Antuérpia).
