Verbum caro factum est, for choir with soloist (2014)

Verbum caro factum est was a commission from Libellus Usualis to write a work for choir with solo voice to be published in Libellus 2. Libellus Usualis was founded in 2013 with the mission of helping to publicise and support Portuguese-speaking sacred music, with the main connection to music from the second half of the 20th century and music from the 21st century.
The second volume of the edition celebrated the “Tempo de Natal” (Christmas). I therefore decided to use the text ‘Verbum caro factum est et habitavit in nobis’ in this piece for SATB Choir with soloist (alto). Et vidimus gloriam eius, gloriam quasi Unigeniti a Patre, plenum gratiae et veritatis.’ (The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we have seen his glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”).

Verbum caro factum est foi uma encomenda da Libelus Usualis, para que escrevesse uma obra para coro com voz solista a ser publicada na Libellus 2. A Libellus Usualis surgiu em 2013 com a missão de ajudar a divulgar e a apoiar a Música Sacra de expressão portuguesa, com principal ligação à música da segunda metade do século XX e música deste século XXI.
O segundo volume da edição celebrou o “Tempo de Natal”. Decidi, por isso, utilizar nesta peça para Coro SATB com solista (alto), o texto “Verbum caro factum est et habitavit in nobis. Et vidimus gloriam eius, gloriam quasi Unigeniti a Patre, plenum gratiae et veritatis.” (em português: “O Verbo fez-se carne e habitou entre nós. E vimos a sua glória, glória como do unigénito do Pai, cheio de graça e de verdade”).
